The Donar DE-XRT Pro is an advanced sorter for the recycling of non-ferrous metals. It combines dual-energy X-ray transmission, high-resolution RGB imaging, and artificial intelligence to separate aluminum from heavy metal impurities in blended material streams.

The system analyzes the differences in X-ray absorption and penetration in each material, along with their surface characteristics. Thanks to this combination, it makes it possible to accurately distinguish aluminium from metals such as copper, zinc or stainless steel, and also to separate cast aluminium from forged aluminium according to its structure, density and surface.

Dual-energy X-ray sorting

The technology works with two levels of energy:

Low energy: 20–50 keV
High energy: 80–150 keV

Each material offers a different response to both energy levels. This difference is measured by the DER dual-energy ratio, which allows materials to be identified and separated with high accuracy.

Aluminum

Aluminium has medium to low energy absorption and low absorption to high energy.
Low energy: moderate transmission
High Energy: High Transmission
DER: 1.5–2.5

Heavy metals: copper, zinc, stainless steel, among others

Heavy metals show very high absorption at low energy and medium absorption at high energy.
Low Energy: Low Transmission
High energy: moderate transmission

Thanks to the combined analysis of DER + RGB, the Donar DE-XRT Pro is able to separate aluminum from metal impurities and differentiate aluminum types within complex mixtures of non-ferrous waste.
